5 Easy Ways to Recognize Heresy

In Part 1 of this post (as I have in several other posts), I address some of the reasons that lead many people to go against the teachings of Christ Ahnsahnghong and Heavenly Mother, labeling the Church of God as a “cult.” Like many others, I too was once kept from attending the Church of God because of the fabricated lies defaming the Church, Christ Ahnsahnghong and Mother. So in this post, I’ll give you five easy biblically-based ways to identify heresy.

When I first heard about the teachings of the World Mission Society Church of God, while shocking, it was relieving to see everything through the Bible. It was completely different from what I learned growing up. And although it was everything I had ever searched for, I turned to the internet for the simple fact that I wanted to know what others thought about the Church of God. Error #1.

Yes, the teachings are from the Bible. But I still looked for the opinions of others before I took the step of being baptized (so foolish of me!). I watched video testimonials, read blogs, etc., of people who claimed the Church of God was a cult. And sadly, I believed it.

But after much back and forth, I decided to make my own judgment and go to the Church of God myself. So I went, and I studied, and I was blown away. I realized that everything negative I had ever heard was false!

It’s only through the Bible, that we can distinguish whether or not a church is really heretic.

So let’s get started. First of all, how does the Bible even describe a “cult” or heresy?

2 Peter 2:1 But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them – bringing swift destruction on themselves. [NLT] Many will follow their evil teaching and shameful immorality. And because of these teachers, the way of truth will be slandered.

Heresies don’t teach the words of God from the Bible, but instead make their own doctrines and follow traditions that do not come from God. And many go so far as to slander the truth and brand the truth as heresy.

Relative heresy is one judged by the traditions of other churches and religious authorities. As you saw in Part 1 of this post, Pharisees and teachers of the law labeled the Early Church as heretic, simply because they judged Christ’s teachings from their own knowledge and traditions, and not the teachings of the Bible. So even though they labeled the Early Church as heretic, the Early Church was the true Church in the eyes of God. It’s the same today, the only Church that keeps the teachings of Christ in the Bible is the World Mission Society Church of God. And even though many label it as heretic or a “cult,” it’s the true Church in the eyes of God.

The real heretics, as defined by God in the Bible and not my own opinion, are those who go against the teachings of Christ. This type of heretic group is defined and judged by biblical teachings. So how do you know which churches today are heretic? Let’s dive in.

1. They don’t keep the Sabbath Day.

One of the most basic teachings of the Bible is the Sabbath day. From the creation, God set Saturday apart from every other day of the week as the day to worship God and receive HIs blessings. The Sabbath is even in the ten commandments.

Exodus 20:8 Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. You have six days each week for your ordinary work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest dedicated to the Lord your God.

To many, this may seem trivial, especially when billions of Catholics and Christians around the world observe Sunday worship, a tradition that is not at all biblical. However, God left it as a command for us to keep until the day we enter the Kingdom of Heaven (Matthew 24:20) and for our own blessing. Even Jesus showed us the example.

Luke 4:16 He [Jesus] went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom.

What about Jesus Christ? What day did Jesus Christ worship? Jesus Christ kept the Sabbath day to show the example for us to follow so that we may receive God’s blessing. However, Churches today do not keep the Sabbath day on Saturday. Instead, they follow a tradition that was created by men.

The book, A History of the Early Church to A.D. 500, describes the origin of Sunday observance:

But perhaps the most significant evidence of this policy is to be found in the decree of 321 regulating Sunday observance. That ordinance puts the Lord’s Day on the same level of observance as the pagan festivals and marks it by the cessation of work. It is noteworthy, however, that the day is described by no Christian appellation but simply as dies venerabilis solis, and no pagan could well object to that. (J.W.C. Wand, A History of the Early Church to AD 500, p. 132).

Sunday worship started in the Roman Empire, and is not a command from God.

Ezekiel 22:26 Your priests have violated my instructions and defiled my holy things. They make no distinction between what is holy and what is not. And they do not teach my people the difference between what is ceremonially clean and unclean. They disregard my Sabbath days so that I am dishonored among them.

People come up with a million excuses for their worship on Sunday, which is not biblical. Even religious leaders of today, Catholics and Christians alike, admit that the correct biblical day of worship is Saturday, but they choose not to keep it since they prefer to adhere to their tradition of Sunday worship.

Matthew 15:3 Jesus replied, “And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition? [v.7] They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.” [NLT] “Their worship is a farce, for they teach man-made ideas as commands from God.”

Then, is the World Mission Society Church of God heretic for following the command of God to keep the Sabbath day?

2. They don’t keep the New Covenant Passover.

Christians and Catholics alike claim to believe that Jesus Christ died and shed His blood to forgive our sins. However, they don’t keep the very command that Jesus Christ established through His flesh and blood.

John 6:53 So Jesus said again, “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you cannot have eternal life within you. But anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life.”

Luke 22:14 When the time came, Jesus and the apostles sat down together at the table. Jesus said, “I have been eager to eat the Passover meal with you before my suffering begins…Then he took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it. Then he said, “Take this and share it among yourselves…He took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this to remember me.”

This is the purpose for Christ’s coming to this earth – to give us eternal life through His body and blood. He came to give us the Passover. However, no Church today keeps the New Covenant Passover that Christ eagerly established before his crucifixion. Instead, they keep communion, or a feast of their own choosing, none of which are biblical.

The only Church keeping the New Covenant Passover as Christ kept it is the World Mission Society Church of God. Then, does that make us heretics?

3. They celebrate Christmas as the birthday of Jesus.

Mark 7:6 He replied, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written: ‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.’ You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions.”

Instead of celebrating the Passover to remember Christ, churches nowadays celebrate Christmas as the birthday of Jesus Christ. But if you’ve checked out my post about the origin of Christmas, you will see that Christmas has absolutely nothing to do with Jesus Christ. Actually, Christmas originated from a combination of several pagan festivals honoring the sun god. And all the traditions surrounding Christmas were in celebration of different gods in different regions of Europe. I mean, do you put up a tree whenever your own birthday comes around? Or do your friends give each other gifts on your birthday? Seriously!

However, many point the finger at the Church of God because we do not celebrate Christmas. If it’s not biblical, then what is the right thing to do, celebrate it? Is the World Mission Society Church of God heretic for not celebrating Christmas – a celebration of the birth of the sun god?

4. They worship the cross.

Two thousand years ago, the cross was an instrument used for capital punishment. But it was that very instrument that was used to kill Jesus Christ, God who came in the flesh. But then in the fifth century, the cross made its appearance in the church, which had already become secularized. No longer were they keeping the Passover or the Sabbath day. No longer were the teachings of Christ being kept, but instead the Roman Church had already been following pagan traditions.

The cross had previously been used in ancient Babylonian and Egyptian culture to worship their gods.

Yet today, the cross has become the symbol of Christianity. The Catholic Church and just about every Christian church reveres the cross and sees it as something holy to remember Christ. Blindly, they are following pagan teachings that have been passed down throughout thousands of years. But as the Bible says, the cross, which they have made their god, can do nothing for them.

Jeremiah 10:3 Their ways are futile and foolish. They cut down a tree, and a craftsman carves an idol. They decorate it with gold and silver and then fasten it securely with hammer and nails so it won’t fall over. Their gods are like helpless scarecrows in a cucumber field! They cannot speak, and they need to be carried because they cannot walk. Do not be afraid of such gods, for they can neither harm you nor do you any good.”

What is baffling, is that God clearly specified about idolatry in the ten commandments. But just like the keeping of the Sabbath day, people turn a blind eye to this teaching.

Deuteronomy 27:15 “Cursed is anyone who carves or casts an idol and secretly sets it up. These idols, the work of craftsman, are detestable to the Lord.”

The World Mission Society Church of God does not revere the cross and does not have any crosses in any of its temples. Then, does that make us heretics?

5. They do not believe in God the Father and God the Mother.

Lastly, millions of Christians today claim to believe in God. However, God tells us in the Bible that if we truly believe God, then we will make effort to acknowledge God and know who God is. This is true eternal life. If we know exactly who God is, then we can say we have eternal life. However, modern day Christians only believe that the Bible testifies about God the Father. But the Bible clearly testifies that there is also God the Mother.

Galatians 4:26 But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother.

Without believing in God the Father AND God the Mother, we cannot say that we know God and we cannot say that we have eternal life. So I ask you again. Is the World Mission Society Church of God heretic for believing in God the Mother who is testified in the Bible?

If we truly love God and call ourselves Christians, then we must follow the teachings of Christ in the Bible. And only the World Mission Society Church of God follows every teaching of the New Covenant that Jesus Christ left.

John 14:15 “If you love me, obey my commandments.”

Church of God tries to follow Jesus’ example and teachings in the Bible. Sabbath on Sat, Passover of the New Covenant, Covering woman’s head, the faith about the Holy Spirit and the Bride … all these come from the Bible only, not man’s doctrine. I really hope all people see the Bible with sincere faith. Then you will get the truth of salvation and Christ.

False is very similar to truth. So we need spiritual wisdom and standard which is based on the Bible and God. We shouldn’t judge false teachings by common sense or social conventions. Things that is not in the Bible is not from God.
