Is Sunday the Lord’s Day?
I recently came across a video that tried to explain why we should keep worship services on Sunday and not Saturday. Like many Christians, they claim that the Early Church worshipped on Sundays because they kept the Lord’s Day, quoting this verse:
Revelation 1:10 On the Lord’s Day I was in the Spirit, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet…
Yes, the Early Church worshipped on the Lord’s Day. But this does not make the Lord’s Day on Sunday. In fact, no verse in the Bible says the Lord’s Day is Sunday.
The Lord in Revelation 1:10 is Jesus Christ. So in other words, the Lord’s Day means Jesus’ Day. But what did Jesus say in the book of Matthew?
Matthew 12:8 “For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”
Jesus Christ said He is Lord of the Sabbath. This makes the Lord’s Day on Sabbath.
In the Old Testament, too, God the Father Jehovah told the Israelites that He was the Lord of the Sabbath.
Exodus 31:12-13 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘You must observe my Sabbaths…'”
Both in the Old Testament and in the New Testament, God is the Lord of the Sabbath. This makes the Lord’s Day the Sabbath Day (Saturday) and not Sunday.
Christians who claim the Lord’s Day is Sunday have made Sunday their day to “worship God” without taking into consideration the commands of God. But God left a pretty strong message in the Bible about this:
Matthew 15:8-9 (NLT) Jesus replied… “You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you, for he wrote, ‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is a farce, for they teach man-made ideas as commands from God.’”
From the beginning, God commanded to keep the Sabbath Day in order that we may be recognized as the people of God. Visit your local World Mission Society Church of God and learn how important it is to keep the Sabbath day. As Christians, we cannot and should not make our own doctrines and ways to worship God. God has already established the correct way we should worship Him and left it written for us in detail in the Bible. We just need to have an open and humble mind to understand it and put it into practice.
So amazing to be able to keep the correct day according to God’s law — the only law that leads to salvation! Even how much people undergo for breaking a human law and having to face the consequences, how much more the consequences of missing out on God’s blessings promised through keeping the Sabbath day! I hope many people are able to realize how much value God put into Sabbath day, and keep it!
God wishes us to follow his teachings and rule in faith, throwing out our fixed idea. The Bible says the day of Lord is Saturday not Sunday. Please have faith in the Sabbath as it is God’s will.
