The Church of God and Sabbath Day

Meet Alex. Alex attended the Wharton School of Business at UPenn and she’s a current member of the World Mission Society Church of God. In this video, Alex explains her experience with the Church of God and Sabbath day.

She describes how growing up she had some confusion about the correct day of worship. She thought the Christian day to worship God was Sunday.

It wasn’t until Alex visited the Church of God that she learned about the Sabbath day directly from the Bible. It was so clear not only that the day of worship is Saturday but that it’s directly related to our salvation.

In the Bible – both in the Old and New Testaments – God describes in detail the importance of keeping the Sabbath day.

Exodus 31:13 (NLT) Tell the people of Israel: ‘Be careful to keep my Sabbath day, for the Sabbath is a sign of the covenant between me and you from generation to generation. It is given so you may know that I am the Lord, who makes you holy. You must keep the Sabbath day, for it is a holy day for you. Anyone who desecrates it must be put to death.”

Of course, we’re not going to be stoned like the time of the Old Testament for not keeping the Sabbath day. But we have to think about what happens to our spirit. Through the Sabbath day, God makes a sign with His people – those who will enter the kingdom of heaven. So without keeping the Sabbath day, how can we have a sign with God so that He will recognize us as His people on Judgment Day?

Even Jesus Christ kept the Sabbath day to set the example for us to follow.

Luke 4:16 (NLT) When he came to the village of Nazareth, his boyhood home, he went as usual to the synagogue on the Sabbath and stood up to read the Scriptures.

Jesus even said that until the very end, we must keep the Sabbath day.

Matthew 24:20 (NLT) And pray that your flight will not be in winter or on the Sabbath.

Check out Alex’s video and see how even something as small as the day of worship makes such an important difference in our relationship with God.

Clear as crystal water. Sabbath day actually in Spanish is “Sábado.” Sábado in English means Saturday, the 7th day of the week. It is God’s fourth commandment as well. And who is the Lord of the Sabbath? It is Jesus Christ. It is an everlasting command to keep and it is so precious that it is a sign with God! God know us and we know God.
