WMSCOG Receives Presidential Citation

Over the past 50 years, the World Mission Society Church of God has grown exponentially, with more than 2.5 million registered members in 2,500 locations in about 175 countries. And not only is the Church of God carrying out the movement to re-establish the teachings of the Early Church, but it is following the example of Christ to be the salt and light of the world.

Matthew 5:13 (NLT) “You are the salt of the earth. […] You are the light of the world. […] let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

Because the Church of God has followed this command by carrying out good deeds, it has received numerous awards from different organizations and government bodies around the world. And one of the most notable awards has been the Presidential Unit Citation from the Republic of Korea.

“The Church of God has become a spiritual anchor in the field of pain. You’ve shown a message of love to all people with your devotional efforts, and it is right to award you the Presidential Citation. We appreciate your hard work.” These were the words of Korea’s Vice Minister of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries Kim Young-suk, as he awarded the Church of God.

The Presidential Citation is mainly awarded to military units and organizations for providing exceptional meritorious service to the Republic of Korea. Not only was the Church of God the only organization to be granted the award in May 2015, but it is rare for a religious organization to receive the award.

Whether it’s a cleanup in a rural area, a mega blood drive in a big city or responding to a national disaster, the Church of God carries out volunteer and community service activities to “facilitate peace in communities and share love and happiness through volunteerism.”(1)

In Korea, the Church of God took the lead in the relief and recovery efforts in a number of natural disasters, including cleaning the oil spill around Taean, hosting a free meal service at the oil spill affected area in Yeosu, typhoon relief efforts in several provinces, among many others.

After the Sewol Ferry tragedy in April 2014, which left more than 300 people dead, many of whom were high school students, the Church of God organized a free meal service for 44 days.

“Not to speak of the free meals you provided to many people without any complaint despite a long period of time, your smile and concerns toward the victims must’ve become a great consolation,” Vice Minister Kim Young-suk added. “We hope that you will lead Korea well with such a mindset. We will remember your love and devotion forever.”

The Church of God in Korea and across the world teaches and puts into practice Christ’s teaching to love our neighbors as ourselves without expecting anything in return. And receiving the Korean Citation shows this. Organizations go through rigorous scrutiny and background checks before being awarded with the Presidential Citation. But the deeds of the Church of God showed the Church’s earnestness in delivering love to mankind.

The World Mission Society Church of God will continue to share love with mankind and be the spiritual anchor the world needs.

Salt and the Light … When you reflect on this verse, you can see that the Church of God is in step with the prophecy and also following the teachings of Christ. This award is a direct result and of putting those teachings into practice. It is an honor for me to be a member of the Church that gives global awareness and honor to God through good deeds and love for mankind.

I’m so thankful to be a part of such a beautiful movement around the world to care for others through the love the Church of God wants to give to humanity without receiving anything in return. I have become a better person since attending and have learned how to serve others which gives you a joy that cannot be expressed! The WMSCOG didn’t expect the award and did volunteer work from their heart following the teachings of Heavenly Mother! This is moving to the heart to witness!

Thanks so much for your comment, Davina. And it’s so true. We carry out volunteer activities from our heart, with the only desire to deliver love to others, not expecting anything in return. This is why Church of God volunteers are always so joyful.

Truly this award shows how dedicated the World Mission Society Church of God is to helping mankind. The process to receive this award is a very difficult one. For the Church of God to have received it shows how dedicated the members have been not only in Korea but throughout the world at helping their neighbors. I hope that by shinning the light of God on the world everyone can feel a sense of relief from their daily lives and come to find comfort in the World Mission Society Church of God!
    Outstanding work Church of God!

Definitely true, Oscar. It was not an easy process to receive this award from the Korean government. The Church of God had to undergo rigorous background checks beforehand. The public was even given an opportunity to object and explain why the Church of God shouldn’t receive it. But no one had anything negative to say about the Church of God.

Wow, this award is really a big deal. Based on the criteria, it’s clear not just any organization can receive it. This proves the WMSCOG is an outstanding church.
